The protesters say the club is a stain on the community, including the low-income families living nearby who are exposed to fistfights and parking lot prostitution.Įven if there were no disturbances, said Lina Accurso, the group's organizer, ''Their unseen evil seeps out into the community like carbon monoxide.'' 11, the police made nine arrests of dancers, patrons and club employees on prostitution-related charges. By early 2000, they had dwindled to eight die-hards, four of whom have died over the last year.īut after seven years and eight months, the Faithful Four say victory may be nigh. Then in 1997, the state revoked the club's liquor license because of complaints about excessive noise.īut even as a juice bar, the club remained popular, and most protesters grew discouraged. The village won a court battle to ban dancing before 10 p.m. The pickets never had any cookies but they did have their small victories. The club insisted that the press generated by the protests was great advertising, and it taunted the pickets by laying out a table with coffee and cookies. In fact, club owners testified that some village officials had become regulars.
But despite several lawsuits, the village was unable to close the club.
That first summer, roughly 100 residents, including the mayor, picketed the club. It's a catchy title for this long-running double feature, one that may soon be ending, according to a small group of Port Chester residents who have picketed for the club's closing since it opened in 1993. Fueled by thermoses of hot cocoa, they wave signs that read ''The Last Brothel Before the Thruway.'' Meanwhile, there is a free show outside, but these participants wear parkas and gloves against the winter wind. In the club's inner rooms, lap dances with young women wearing little or nothing are half-price.
